After School Chess at PS41
Open to current PS41 students only

Children divide their time between instruction and supervised game play. Instruction includes piece movement, pawn promotion, castling, basic opening strategies, basic checkmate patterns, master games analysis, and basic tactics (pins, forks, and discoveries). More advanced students learn intermediate opening strategies, multiple checkmate patterns, endgame play, master game analysis, and basic and advanced tactics (pins, forks, discoveries, and deflections). Teachers also stress good sportsmanship and respect for the game and other players.

The After School chess teachers are Jeremy Scheinbach, Anatoly Trubman, James Lewis, and Roman Krant.
