HERE’S WHAT IS GOING ON IN THE WELLNESS COMMITTEE…
We’ve partnered with Wellness In The School (WITS) since 2011.
We host taste & cook demos with Gramercy Tavern Chef, Michael Anthony, twice a year.
We host in-class cooking labs twice a year where students learn to cook a healthful recipe. Please read more about these labs:
Fall Apples & Kale
Monthly WITS Bits mini-nutrition classroom lessons for K-1 grades hosted by our in-house WITS Chef. During these lessons, children learn basic nutrition facts through hands-on demonstrations.
Weekly Farmer’s Market every Tuesday (Fall and Spring). Leftovers are donated to the kitchen for student lunch.
Here’s a great recipe to make with fresh produce: Corn and Tomato Scramble
We partner with GrowNYC to sell produce from local farms.
We host monthly Fresh Lunch Sample days where students can taste items cooked in the kitchen, to encourage more students to enjoy our fresh lunch.
DID YOU KNOW THAT…
Most cafeteria lunch recipes are scratched cooked with fresh produce and a fresh salad bar is offered daily.
Processed foods are avoided as possible & fresh herbs from our roof garden are used.
Breakfast is served for free at early drop off, starting at 7:45AM.
Students recycle and compost in the cafeteria and fresh lunch is served on compostable trays.
Signing up for lunch is flexible. You can pick and choose which day(s) based on your liking.
You can view the lunch menu at ps41.org and in the weekly PTA bulletin.
Members of the Wellness Committee volunteer to help during lunch and at the salad bar.
Increasing student lunch participation, gives us more kitchen staff and a stronger voice with the DOE SchoolFoods.
HOW DOES FRESH LUNCH WORK?
Children are asked to pick a minimum of 3 items for lunch of which at least 2 are vegetables or fruit.
If the hot lunch is not your child’s preference on a given day, PB&J or cheese sandwiches and salad bar are options.
You can set up an auto-pay function at myschoolbucks.com (which was previously called mylunchmoney.com)
