Book Club with Ms. Lee
The 2024-2025 school year is the (lucky!) 13th year of my Book Club Afterschool program. It is held Monday-Thursday from dismissal until 5:00 pm. Your child does not have to know how to read to sign up for and enjoy Book Club! This is a program that is meant to be fun for the children with NO PRESSURE to read or achieve at a level or pace that is not comfortable for each child.
The youngest children will attend on Mondays - this group will include First Grade students and Kindergarten students with my prior approval.
More-established readers meet on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Tuesdays are suggested for Second and Third grade students.
Thursdays are for older, established readers, Fourth and Fifth grade and Third grade with my prior approval.
In this fun and friendly environment, all of the children build reading stamina, practice their re-telling skills and have a chance to simply enjoy the essential pleasure of hearing a good story. I’m excited to introduce more opportunities for Book Club students to begin story-telling with the group themselves, and I will update this element as it progresses!
Logistics:
At dismissal, the children will be picked up by me in the yard and Book Club is held in my home, three blocks from PS41. Please reach out to me at leeburnley@gmail.com with any questions.

Karate Do Ken Wa Kan
Shihan Michelle and her team of Sensei have been providing expert quality martial arts training for young people in Greenwich Village since 1998. We do not teach "kid’s karate"—we teach karate to kids—and we are really good at it!
Our program is specifically designed to engage and develop children beginning at age three in the underlying developmental movement patterns essential to successfully acquiring new skills and techniques. At age 6 children enter our basic program which qualifies them for our premier Black Belt Course. We combine traditional Japanese karate with skill building games and exercises that are lively, challenging and fun!
Beginning with their first class, students at Kenwakan are encouraged to be focused and aware of themselves and their environment, be kind and respectful to others and ultimately, be responsible, confident and empowering leaders in the world. The skills acquired in earning a Black Belt at Kenwakan will serve them for the rest of their lives. The fundamental movement skills and practices that they develop while training with us in our basic program and beyond are immediately applicable and relevant in their everyday lives. Whether they choose the long-term commitment of a Black Belt (4-7 years) or the short-term commitment of our 6-month basic program, they will benefit from the disciplined, challenging and nurturing environment that our program and community offer.
Pickup from PS 41 offered on Mondays & Wednesdays
All Ken Wa Kan programs require twice a week participation.

Kawaii Artists
Kawaii Artists is an art class/after school program/community for children, who love to explore their imagination and creativity. We create our own characters and share our ideas through the medium of drawing. The"Kawaii Style" is the beginning step in the young artist's process of finding a voice through the diverse language of art and storytelling.
Kawaii (“little”, “lovable”, “dear” or “charming”) is the quality of cuteness in the context of Japanese culture.
Classes will be held Mon-Friday 2:50pm-6:15pm. Students will be picked up from their teachers in the PS41 big yard and brought to the program. At the end of the program, adults should pick up their student(s) in front of Capital One bank in Union Square. (If any family needs help with drop off in different area we can be flexible.)
